Sustainability
The main question for adults but sure for pupils is “In what world do you want to live?”
We want improve education on the subject of sustainably and integrate it in a circular economy. We will integrate our environmental measures at school
This project is for schools that want to cooperate about lessons and education about sustainability by exchanging experience of lessons and projects. The topic is that we pay attention for our youngest pupils to their immediate living environment such as school and home, for the pupils from the middle groups, their place of residence and the region play a more role, the slightly older pupils will pay attention to their country, Europe, in addition to the region and global consequences. We strive to approach things in a positive context if possible.
Sustainable development should not become a separate item but integrated in various disciplines. We will have to think about this together and make goals that we set fit within the learning lines of all disciplines.
The items of sustainability are embedded within several fields.
Concerning a project about sustainability and circular economy, pupils also will be involved. Possibly European pupils from partner schools will be invited to see how European pupils work on these items. There will be all kind of exchanging information via Internet by Etwinning, Whats app etc.
Pupil’s exchanges
During the student exchanges, the visiting students not only give a personal presentation about themselves, their home, family and the school, but also a picture of the sustainability aspects of the school and the situation in their region or country.
The starting point is of course the situation at the host school and the activities in the host country.
The students write a report and present it to their fellow students back at school. They may also have contact with their classmates via the internet during their visit and they can respond to the questions that are asked.
After the visit, the participants in the exchange create and present with their teachers/supervisors a page on this SEPS website about their experiences.
During these visits, the aspects of a former AXEP project play a role in the background. For example, the children complete a survey twice with regard to their prejudices about the country to be visited. The first is prior to the visit. The second after the exchange. They discuss both survey results with their fellow students and teachers to find out whether they had biases and what the result is.
From this perspective, we assume that the children can stay with host families two by two, so that they can get to know the host country from a safe environment.
The children are not only involved in the preparation of the trip; the journey itself is also a learning moment.
In addition to the student exchanges, there is a Video project, in which every school can participate, even if they have not applied for or received a subsidy.
The setup is actually very simple. pupils, possibly with the help of a teacher or parent, make a video clip of about 5 minutes with a mobile phone (fromat MP4). Text must be in English or there must be subtitles. obviously the theme is “Sustainability”.
This video will be sent to the coordinator of the school in Houten: Anton Verwey afc.verwey@planet.nl The film will be processed in a presentation and will then be placed on the project’s SEPS website. After that, everyone who visits the website can watch all the videos from all partner schools, pupils, parents, teachers with their group, in short, everyone can see what activities are happening all over Europe. The intention is to submit 3 to 4 recordings per school.

The participating schools
Due to the changed regulation, schools are more focused on organizing internationalization based on their own situation and needs. The phenomenon of the “coordinating school” is less topical.
After the cooperation in recent years, a number of schools are willing to work together on Inclusion and Sustainability for job shadowing for teachers on Inclusion, EPIE and student exchange for SEPS. The Dutch school de Plantage in Houten and the German school Grundschule Steinheid will act like contact school with a coordinating role.
For SEPS there can be job shadowing for teachers to to experience how the school is shaping the concept of ‘education in sustainability’. In addition, there is the possibility to have job shadowing about Inclusion, for which the EPIE project has been created, for which an extra different website has been created.
Schooling or courses. It is possible that in the following years at one of the partner schools, or via the partner schools, a course will be indicated on education-oriented activities about sustainability. In short, the possibilities are practically unlimited.
In order to inform teachers and parents in particular about the cooperation and the progress of our project, so-called SEPS Bulletins will appear on this website. It is certainly advisable to take note of this, all kinds of things will be announced. Anyone can provide information to the coordinator of the school in Houten Anton Verwey via afc.verwey@planet.nl
Each partner school gets separate access to its own page to post reports, learning experiences, and student messages. Each partner school receives its own login code + password.
Coordinators and management will meet regularly via Meet or Skype to exchange opinions and experiences and discuss plans.
Depending on their grants, subsidies, possibilities and other school-related situations, schools can participate and collaborate in different ways and levels.
These schools participate now, November 2023 in SEPS and/or EPIE:
- De Plantage in Houten in the Netherlands.

Map of Schools
Openbare Dalton basisschool de Plantage in Houten in the Netherlands
OBS de Plantage is a public Dalton school with about 500 pupils, situated in a particularly child-friendly and play-friendly, spacious environment.
De Plantage is a public primary school for Dalton education located in the Houten-Zuid district. The core values of Dutch Dalton education are central to Dalton education.
In daily practice, this means that our students are really part owners of their own learning process, but always under the supervision of the teacher. Teachers are also counselors for pupils.
We see the exchange of pupils as a very important aspect to realize our goals. Children who participate in the exchange will be well prepared and share their experiences with their fellow students.
Within our school, we have a student council that is investigating solutions to think and act sustainable. Older pupils are represented in the student council. They consult in their classes. In 2020, we started separating plastic and paper and residual waste. Lately we asked for a grant at the municipality, to experiment with worm hotels to obtain our own compost. The student council regular discuss also these matters.
In the meantime, the student council has already purchased a plastic container to separate the plastic waste.

Staatliche Grundschule Steinheid in Germany
The Steinheid primary school is a two-stream primary school on the crest of the Thuringian Forest. As a partly bound all-day elementary school with a fully rhythmic school day, we have created child-friendly structures for optimal learning success. The basic educational goals of our institution are anchored in our school concept “Elementary school Steinheid – a primary school where you feel comfortable in the green heart of Europe”. A solid basic education and the upbringing of young people who are open-minded, honest and willing to learn are the focal points of our concept. As an European school, we pay particular attention to the idea of Europe growing together and education for sustainable development on an international scale. Our lovingly designed school building and our spacious school grounds with schoolyard, playground, school garden and school forest offer ideal external conditions for joyful, natural and effective learning. Elementary school lives through the community, lives in and with a region. That is why working with parents and grandparents, with the communities and with local clubs is particularly important to us.

Agrupamento de Escolas Dr. Francisco Sanches in Braga in Portugal
We are a grouping of schools with a diversified educational offer that includes: Pre-School Education, 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycles of Basic Education covering the age group from 3 to 15 years old. The grouping has seven schools, with around 830 of the 1590 students and children at the main school. The Group’s territorial growth was always accompanied by positive organizational transformations that promoted the improvement of the quality of learning and the development of citizenship and solidarity attitudes of the students. Three pillar moments of this change stand out. In 2009, the educational community was defined as an Educational Territory of Priority Intervention (TEIP), a strategic decision that successfully responded to the challenges posed by the socio-educational reality in which it is limited.
Our educational project prioritizes social and democratic inclusion, in a holistic approach in which there are formal moments for all students to participate: assembly of class delegates and student advisory council. Everything is only possible thanks to collaboration between teachers, technicians, students, their families and various partners, prioritizing well-being in different aspects. Our big on an intercultural approach to knowledge and learning, enriching itself through the reception, integration and educational success of children and young people of all nationalities, as well as respect for differences and the establishment of positive relationships of interaction and approximation between students and other members of the educational community from different cultures.
The AEFS intends to establish itself as an educational organization of reference, as a focus for the development of citizenship and interculturality for and with the educational community. In the development of citizenship, the work carried out in the context of environmental education stands out as one of the guiding vectors of the Group, to promote the formation of children and young people, making them more responsible for the preservation of the environment and the Planet. In order to achieve this, the Group provides two pedagogical gardens, at the Dr. Francisco Sanches School and at the Kindergarten at Quinta das Fontes, develops the “Ciência Viva” Project and promotes activities promoted by the “Eco-Schools” program. All activities aim at intercultural integration (the school has students from 47 different nationalities) and encouraging the integrated development of the concepts of citizenship and environmental sustainability associated with intergenerational responsibility.
The project will be coordinated by the sub director, Arlindo Areias and the Erasmus+ Coordinator, Professor Hermínia Alonso. In their absence, the headmaster will nominate another person with expertise in the area to replace them.
Although the school has been in the Eco-Schools programme for 2 years, the sub-director has a long experience in managing projects of environmental sustainability to which he has been linked for 10 years.
Although the school grouping is still in the accreditation phase, which could make our participation difficult, as we do not have a budget approved by the Erasmus+ programme, we intend to turn the exchange of experiences in the areas of environmental education into a motor for intercultural approximation, inclusion and the fight against xenophobia, under the cover of the protection of the Planet – a subject that is common to all and that unites us all.
Taking into account our conditions, we are available to participate with the other partners in the project presented. Our families have also shown interest in collaborating in this exchange, although the possibility of travel is not guaranteed due to lack of funding. As our school is multicultural and has ethnic minorities, we are also available for jobshadowing about inclusion.

Management Structure of the Institution
The Archbishop’s Seminary School is a boys’ School owned by the Archdiocese of Malta and is a Catholic Church school. The Rector and the Headmaster are generally priests appointed by the archdiocese. The Rector is responsible for the running of the Seminary which also includes a residential program for priests in training. The institution’s leadership style
The school’s management is largely collaborative in style but has ultimately the final say in the decision-taking process. The school’s needs and their prioritisation are always identified through a wide consultation with all involved. Following discussion and consultation, the Senior Leadership Team decides the way forward. For policy and financial aspects the Seminary’s Management Board are generally requested to approve.
The school prides itself on a strong self-reflection process, in which processes are analysed and evaluated to always come with the way forward.

The school operates and Day Department where 40 students of all grades attend classes and prepare for the next day, until 16.00 pm. Information on our school website: http://dim-kolindr.pie.sch.gr/
Our school is located in Kolindros Pieria, a hilly town with 3000 inhabitants. In my town there are two primary schools. The building of the 2nd Primary school is modern and beautiful, it is almost at the upper part of the town. There is a wonderful view of the surrounding area and the magnificent natural environment. The two kindergartens the 1st and the 2nd share the same space with the primary schools. At the outskirts of the town there a nursery school, a high school and a lyceum. The nearest cities to Kolindros are Thessaloniki at a distance of 49 km, Veria and Katerini at a distance of 35 km. The international motorway provides easy and safe access. The city of Kolindros is well known for preserving a rich local tradition that results from a long historical past. At the same time the surrounding area is endowed with incomparable natural beauty that seduces the visitor. This “tiny spot” in the map called Kolindros, possesses a particularly attractive historicity.

ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO PIEDIMONTE SAN GERMANO
The “IC Piedimonte San Germano” was founded in the year 2000, with the union of institutions which previously depended on two different school institutions, with different educational traditions and organization. The union of these rich realities required the pooling of experiences and use of common educational languages, so as to bring about a fully recognizable entity for families.
The “IC Piedimonte San Germano” is a state school, and we operate on a vast territory that covers 2 “comuni” (municipalities): Piedimonte San Germano and Villa Santa Lucia. The main building is quartered in Piedimonte San Germano. As a Comprehensive School we cover age groups from 3-4 (Kindergarten), 5-10 (Primary School) to 11-13 (Scuola Media).
Our school vision is for Quality Education, contrast of all forms of Discrimination and School Dispersion; Learning Opportunities for all; Citizenship, Inclusion and Sustainability. These aspects are also included in our Erasmus+ project, for which we have been accredited.

DIREZIONE DIDATTICA 3° CIRCOLO CESENA
DD3 Cesena is a public school organisation and it is located in Cesena, in the Northeast of Italy.
We have 3 pre primary schools, for children from 3 to 6, and 4 primary schools for children from 6 to 11, with 832 pupils, 24 pre primary teachers, 76 primary teachers and 27 people of non teaching staff. Families can choose between two different options for their children: 27 hours at school or 40 hours.
The children are at the heart of our educational approach and we work to be:
- a school that shapes today’s and tomorrow’s citizens, striving to develop social and civic competencies;
- a school that focuses on inclusion, values diversity, and encourages encounters between different cultures and social realities in the community;
- a school open to new languages and new knowledge;
- an integrated school, engaged in dialogue, capable of building constructive collaborations with families, institutions, and associations;
- a school that renews its practices and methodologies to support students’ development according to their different learning styles;
- a school that looks to Europe as a great opportunity to foster new relationships and acquire new good practices.
Children with special needs are included in the classes and supported by specialized teachers.
In one of our schools we teach English even through other subjects, using the CLIL methodology, thus increasing the number of hours of English per week.
We collaborate with the Computer Science Faculty of the University of Bologna to train our teachers and involve our students in activities related to coding and robotics. Every year we actively participate in May in the “Festival dei micromondi”: the students from the pre primary to the secondary school of Cesena present to the city their activities in the field of coding and robotics.
In our school there are many families from abroad; thanks to the collaboration with the parents and some local associations the school is becoming a point of reference where they can meet and make projects, such as studying the Italian language.
As for sustainability, in collaboration with the parents and some other stakeholders, we are creating a new garden, where we can have lessons and play. The main theme of our three-year project is soil and in the classes teachers are following different paths to develop the same great topic.
We have been an Erasmus+ school since 2020 and we are enlarging our network and our experiences thanks to the exchange and the activities that with Erasmus+ we can realize.
