Malta, March 9th till March 14th
We had an amazing and interesting week in Malta. Because of several trips and workshops, organized by our colleagues at the Archbishop’s seminary, we learned a lot. Throughout we saw and experienced different ways of sustainability and its importance to us as humans.

Furthermore it was special to go on excursions with so many different cultures.
On Monday we had a lecture and activity regarding sustainable maritime archeology. In one of the pictures you will see our 8 Dutch boys with VR-glasses diving to a preserved shipwreck.

Later on in the week we visited Xrobb-il-Ghagin Nature Reserve to understand sustainable practices in the conservation of plant and animal species. The help and knowledge regarding rehabilitation of injured turtles and hedgehogs was really felt by our students when they truly saw the animals themselves. Lots of aw..w was heard when they saw this little hedgehog. They showed us the dangers all kinds of mammals face in today’s world and how to help them.

On Wednesday we had an insight on the local cuisine of Malta, because of a visit to a food processing factory using local products.

One unexpected form of sustainability came in the form of our visit to Haqar kim, a 5000 year old temple complex. It is protected from the elements by man made shelters. It was a very special sight! The slow deterioration has been witnessed first hand, so the archeologists at the park are doing everything they can to make sure to preserve it. They are looking for alternative forms of preservation to protect it in the future.

During the workshops and trips we saw the connections made between students. One of the workshops was making friendship bracelets and we saw them helping eachother. They also enjoyed painting characteristics of each country and making comic books together. Using a common language (English) they reached out to eachother!

Thank you for your warm hearts and hospitality! It was an amazing journey for our 8 students and us!
