Our trip to Piedimonte and Pontecorvo in Italy.

We went to Italy for a week with 7 students from group 8 and one student from group 7. We were able to spend a week at two different schools with the children who will also come to our school in January. Miss Sandra and Miss Loes also came with us.
On Sunday we left Schiphol by plane and flew to Rome. In the afternoon we arrived at the airport in Rome and there we met 6 Spanish children and two Spanish teachers. Together we were taken by bus to Piedimonte and Pontecorvo. The host parents were already waiting for us at the school.
After a big welcome with something tasty, we went home with the families.
We were at school at half past eight on Monday morning. All the children were waiting for us outside with welcome signs and flags. We first had a musical performance and then a tour of the school. In the afternoon we had music lessons together with an Italian class. This was great fun! After school we went to a national park with all the host families. We took a walk there and played games. In the evening we went to a restaurant.
We went back to school on Tuesday. We took classes there about sustainability. After school we went with all the host families to a very famous Abbey.
On Wednesday we went to Rome with all the Italian, Spanish and Dutch children. We had to sit on the train for two hours. We were met at the station by two police officers. They took us all the way to St. Peter’s Square. We first had lunch there and were allowed to buy souvenirs. In the afternoon we were given a tour of Rome by a guide. It was a lot of walking, but we saw many beautiful buildings. We ended at the Colosseum. We took a lot of pictures there.
On Thursday and Friday we participated in some lessons at the school. On Thursday afternoon we went to bake pizza with the host parents in a real pizzeria. This was very pleasant. For dessert we got a Nutella pizza!
On Friday afternoon we each had a farewell party at our own school. We all received presents and very tasty cake.
On Saturday we took the bus back to the airport and were back at Schiphol in the evening.
Things we noticed:
Zoë: In Italy they have a lot of materials in the classrooms that look older. Their flag is different and the Italian language sounds different. Many Italian people do not speak English very well. When you go to the toilet at school, you must first grab toilet paper and take it with you to the toilet. They do a lot of creative things at the school. The best part of the trip was flying, doing fun things together such as experiments and baking pizza. I really enjoyed participating!
Mees: I thought it was very special that in Italy they go to bed very late. Usually between 00:00 and 01:00. I really enjoyed seeing that everyone in the town knew each other and chatted when they met.
Julie: It struck me that there were things I didn’t expect. For example, there were very few swings on the playgrounds. Many children’s names start with an A. In many families, the grandparents live in the same house or nearby. They take very good care of them.
Arthur: I enjoyed walking through beautiful Rome and chilling with the Italian children. I had the best host family, they were incredibly sweet and kind!
Lynn: I thought the landscape was very beautiful and the people were very nice. It was very nice to see so many beautiful places and do so many fun things together.
Dylan: I enjoyed baking my own pizza in a real pizzeria!
Koen: I enjoyed baking the pizza the most. It looked very nice and was also very tasty!
Mink: There were very beautiful mountains in Piedimonte. I noticed that everyone liked each other. I thought it was a very nice trip.
