Erasmustrip to Villalba Sassera – Escola Trentapasses
In March we went on a visit to Spain with eight children and two teachers from Houten, the Netherlands. We have had an amazing time and felt very welcome at the school. This is our day to day report, written by the children.
Sunday:
When we were at the airport we had to say goodbye to our parents, which was of course very difficult and some had to cry. The flight went well, but when we got on the train, teacher Nienke’s bag was stolen! Of course it happened with a very clever trick, because there was a man on the outside of the train who tapped on the window with a card, so everyone looked at it. Another man came running from the left who grabbed her bag and jumped out of the train. Of course everyone was very shocked, but in the end everything turned out fine. When we arrived at the station our host family picked us up, we had a nice meal and then went to sleep.
Monday:
On Monday we went to school for the first time. School starts at 9:00. The host family drove us to school. At school we had to wait a while before we were allowed to go inside.
When we arrived we had to sit in a circle and do some math, then we got some fun performances from all the classes.
After the show we had to go back to class, we were divided into groups and made name tags so everyone knew our name.
After that we were allowed to go outside to play, they turned on music when we had to go outside and they turned the music off when we had to go back inside. (very handy and fun)
After playing outside we went to the Mayor with the whole class. He had a welcome story and we all got a green backpack. When we walked back to school we were allowed to play at a playground for a while and then we really had to go to school because there were children who had to pee. After playing outside we had to wait a long time until we had a hot meal at school (Spanish soup) after that we did a kind of bingo.
At 16:30 we went home with our host family and ate pancakes. It rained a lot so we played games inside at 20:30 we went to eat soup again, that was so delicious. After that we danced and played games with our host children and then went to bed…
Tuesday:
On Tuesday we went by train to Girona. On the way we found Gerrit the Worm. Then we got on the train. When we arrived we immediately went shopping for presents for our real family. After shopping we went back to our host family. There we went with our host family to a trampoline park. Then we went with our host family to the Burger King. Then we went to the house of our host family and that was Tuesday.
Wednesday:
On Wednesday we went to school. Then we took the train to Barcelona. And we went to visit the Gaudi museum. We also went to a kind of castle that they have been working on for over 100 years (Sagrada Familia). Then we went shopping. And we ate a McFlurry. Then we went home by train. Then we went home and we went motorcrossing. And in the evening we ate pasta. It was super super fun, highly recommended.
Thursday:
When we went to school we started with gym. Well gym, half of the lesson they talked, but the gym lesson was really fun. Because we were going to make a human tower and I was also allowed to go on a human tower, that was really cool. When we came back to class we immediately went outside to play. Those breaks were quite long: The first break was half an hour and the second break was two and a half hours. When we came back from the first break we were going to bake cookies, it was very funny because we were allowed to add an extra ingredient, so one was the normal recipe, the other was green and much more. Then it was the second break and we went for a hot lunch. After the break we had a Gaudi craft assignment. We were going to make a mosaic but it had to dry. So the next day it was dry and school was out. we went for a walk with half the class through the forest and there was a big bench. After the walk we went to make tiktoks and that was the day.
Friday:
Friday was our last day of school in Spain. There we got our Gaudi works back. The Spanish children had made an Escape Room for us, which was really fun. When school was over, we went to the park to play. After playing for a while, the Spanish children told us that there was a cow somewhere. I thought that was interesting, so I went along to have a look. The cow was on a remote farm in the village. On the farm they also had chickens, cats and dogs.
Then it was time to go to the farewell party. Each child got a diploma and a drinking cup. The host families got a souvenir of us. After the diplomas, we had dinner. After dinner, we played outside. Before I went to bed, I started packing my suitcase and set the alarm for 5 o’clock in the morning.
Saturday:
Last day in Spain we had to get up at four in the morning. We could leave right away at a quarter past six at Cardedeu. Then we had to say goodbye to the host family. We had a private bus. When we got to the airport we had breakfast. Then we went to the plane. We had to wait a while and then we flew. It was only a two hour flight. When we arrived in the Netherlands we had to pick up the suitcases. We got an applause when we arrived in the Netherlands and then the trip was over.
