Marijn and Dex
Day 1
At 8am we arrived at Schiphol with the entire group. After saying goodbye to our
family, we walked to the gate. The plane took off around 9:40 am and we landed in
Thessaloniki in the early afternoon. Here we waited for the children from Germany.
Together with the German children we went to the hotel in Kolindros by private bus.
Day 2
At 8.45am we left for the school . We were given a tour by the director of
the school through all the classes in the school with the Spanish, German and Dutch
children. In each class they had arranged a performance or other performance, such
as a familiar Greek song with movements. The children played outside a lot during
breaks. After school we were allowed to join Fiene and Ella's host family. Here we ate
delicious Greek snacks and did karaoke, which taught us how to pronounce Greek
words. In the evening we went to a folklore museum in Kolindros, with dolls in
traditional costumes, for example.
Day 3
Today we had a lot of presentations at school. The first presentation was about
sustainability. Then someone gave information about Spain, Germany and the
Netherlands, such as information about culture, religion, food. All foreign children
were allowed to give their presentation today. In our presentation we told something
about (sustainability in) the Netherlands, our school and ourselves. After school we
were allowed to go back to the nice host family. Here we gave presents from the
Netherlands and we were allowed to go to karate lessons with the middle child of the
family.
Day 4
09:00 the bus left for Thessaloniki. First we visited a ruin and half an hour later we
were gone again. We walked to a statue and after the statue we came across fountains
and funny umbrellas. We then walked back to the statue and walked past it to a
pirate ship. We took the pirate ship for a spin and walked back to the bus. The bus
took us to a shopping center where we ate McDonald's and walked around a bit. At
2:00 PM we went back to the hotel and around 7:00 PM we went to a church. Where
there was only singing.
Day 5
Today we visited a ruin and souvenir shops. The ruins have been there since 1204.
First it was a church and then a fortress. In 1204 it was still a church and then the
priests did the work at the back of the church and the pastors at the front. We also
saw the grain machine she used at that time. I had bought souvenirs for my family at
the souvenir shops. We had to sleep in the hotel because we had a party that day until
11:00 PM.
The party was karaoke with Greek food, dances and songs.
Day 6
We woke up late from the party. After breakfast we went back to school where we
said goodbye and delicious snacks were prepared. We received a certificate and a pencil case with a photo of us on it. After school we went again with Fiene and Ella&
host family. We went to a football field where we had played football for a long time.
Day 7
The taxi arrived at 10:15. The plane took off at 1:30 PM. The flight went well, we also saw the Alps and that was our trip.
Sustainability
Water tank on your roof
In Greece, most people have a water tank on their roof.
They do this because the water in the tank is heated by the sun.
And then the water becomes hot and you can use it to shower, for example.
Solar panels
Next to us at the hotel Sat on the roof there were about 20 solar panels.
And in Greece the sun often shines, so you generate a lot of electricity for, for
example, television, iPad, iPhone & lamps.
They also had several waste bins in the classroom, one for plastic, residual waste and
paper.
