Tygo and Jason

Kolindros, Greece

21st April 2024 – 27th April 2024

Sunday 21st April

Today I had to get up early, at 06.45 we gathered at the parking lot of our school ‘De Plantage’
to leave later that morning by plane to Greece. The classmates who came along were Marijn,
Jason, Dex, Ella and Fiene. And also teachers Miss Karin and Miss Marieke. Anton also came along.
Early in the afternoon we arrived in Thessaloniki.

The weather was nice. When we had the suitcases and the children from Germany had also
arrived in Thessaloniki, we took the bus to the hotel. This is where the boys, the teachers and

Anton slept. The girls slept with a host family.

In the evening we moved to another hotel because it was a very dirty/bad hotel.

The new hotel was big and very nice. Really a top hotel.

Monday 22nd April

After a delicious breakfast (they had apple pie, brownie, and delicious bread),
we went to the school by taxi. This is what we did at school:

-We got a tour of the entire school;

-Anton had a funny handshake and he was going to show it to all the students;

-Gymnastics with the Greek children, basketball done;

-The Greek children held all the flags of the foreign children, including the Dutch flag! The national anthem of each country was played;
-Played outside, we played football with a pine cone.

After school we went to the host family where Fiene and Ella slept. We played football with the
host family. We also went to a museum with the host family, the children from the other
countries were also there. In the museum there were all kinds of scary dolls.
In the evening we had dinner in a restaurant and then took a taxi back to the hotel.

Tuesday 23rd April

In the morning after breakfast we took a taxi back to school. there we got a greek lesson.
We and the foreign children also gave a presentation. I did the presentation with Jason, in

English and it went very well. I thought it was exciting beforehand.
We had lunch with the host family and we eat a tipical Greek dish, pastitio.
After that we went to watch a basketball game, we also went to a karate training of 1 of the host families children.

In the evening we had dinner at the hotel with very delicious meat, I had a really good meal this evening!

Wednesday 24th April

We were allowed to get up a little later today, get up at 7.30 am instead of 7.00 am, lovely!
Today we took the bus to a town, and there was a super cool pirate boat in the water. We even
went sailing on it! In the water we all saw jellyfish, there was also a pirate on the boat who sat on the tip of the ship and a flag was going to wave.

After the boat trip, we went running through the fountains in a small town. We also went to a shopping center, where we had a nice dinner at McDonalds.

Thursday 25th April

Today we went by bus to a ruin. During the bus trip we came across souvenir shops.

There I bought nice things for myself and my family.
Back at the hotel we played a game with a few children.

In the evening we had a party. At 20:45 hours we took the bus to a restaurant, where we had
dinner and did karaoke. It was super fun! This night we went to bed super late, at midnight!

Friday 26th April
The last full day in Greece.

Unfortunately, Dex was sick today. We took a taxi to school, Dex stayed in the hotel with teacher Karin.

This day we had a party at the school with all kinds of tasty food: popcorn, sandwiches, cupcakes and candy. Everything tasted delicious.
All the children and their parents had made these themselves!

We also received a gift from school: a pencil case with a photo from us in Greece on it, a certificate and an Erasmus pendant.
After the party we went to the host family. There we ate pasta and loukoumades.

This was different from Italian pasta, but tasty for once.

We also played football there.

In the evening we had dinner at the hotel, again that very delicious meat.

Saturday 27th April

Back home today. Quite a pity, because I really liked it.
I would have liked it to stay a few days longer.

After breakfast we packed our suitcase and prepared our lunch for on the road.
We took a taxi to the airport of Thessaloniki, and from there we flew back to The Netherlands.
At Schiphol airport, all the parents were waiting for us with balloons, they had missed us very much, but I didn’t miss them so much.

Sustainability
Greek Travel, Water troughs

When we were in Greece we saw silver round containers on the roofs of the houses.
That was apparently a container that contained a lot of water to be warmed by the sun and no gas needs to be used for warm water

Solar panels

We also saw many solar panels on the roofs of the houses, sometimes as many as 10 solar panels.
That is good for the environment because then you generate electricity yourself through the sun and not through things that pollute the world.

Green roofs

Another thing I noticed on the houses in Greece was that there were plants growing on some roofs

That is greener and more sustainable and the insects are also happy with it.

I think it looks nice too.
Salt from the sea

During our journey we also saw a large pile of salt.

At first we didn’t really know why it was there, but all that salt had been taken from the sea.
Then Anton told us that large containers are filled with sea water to be evaporated by the heat of the sun and eventually leaving the salt in the containers

Quite a good idea, I think.

Windmills

We also saw some windmills in some places which is good.

Because the work of the windmill is that when the wind blows, the blades start turning and energy is released.
