Erasmus Exchange Week in Italy

Day 1: Warm Welcome by Host Families
All host families eagerly awaited the arrival of the students to give them a warm first welcome. This initial meeting set the tone for a week filled with friendship, discovery, and cultural exchange.

Day 2 – Welcome at Pico School
The students gathered at Pico School, where we were greeted by the whole school. They sang and danced to traditional Italian music. It was a festive welcome party. The Mayor of Pico officially greeted everyone, expressing pride in the international collaboration. The day continued with engaging activities for all Erasmus participants, including a lively percussion music class on selfmade instruments, an English treasure hunt which had a handmade bracelet from freely acquired materials as a reward, and a guided tour through the kindergarten, primary, and secondary school buildings.

Day 3 – Discovering Pontecorvo
The next day, the group visited the school in Pontecorvo, where they were again warmly welcomed by the Mayor at the Municipality. In the afternoon, students explored the famous Montecassino Abbey. Founded by St. Benedict in 529 AD, the Abbey stands as a national monument, admired both for its spiritual importance and its cultural heritage. They are able to keep it in a good state, because of money given by the Catholic church.

Day 4 – A Day in Rome
A trip to Rome by train offered an unforgettable experience. Of course the trip takes longer by train, but it is more sustainable when looking at the future. Students visited the iconic Colosseum and other historic landmarks, learning about the city’s ancient history and architecture while enjoying time together in the heart of Italy’s capital.

Day 5 – Welcome in San Giovanni Incarico
Upon arrival at the San Giovanni Incarico school, the students were received by the Mayor and every student of the school. We opened the school by cutting a ribbon. This was done by one of our students, because it was her birthday. They sang to us various Italian songs and an English happy birthday. It was again a very warm welcome. They played a game about sustainability through programming.

Day 6 – Farewell Celebration
The week concluded with a farewell party at the Pontecorvo Middle School. Parents organized a lovely buffet to celebrate the unforgettable week and to say goodbye to the departing guests. The mayors of all three municipalities — Pico, Pontecorvo, and San Giovanni Incarico — attended, highlighting the importance of this cultural and educational exchange.
