Our visit to Malta

By Mike Valkenburg and Otis Weldam

Day 1:

We arrived early at Schiphol and went to give our family a breath of fresh air. Then we went to customs and everyone got through. Then we went for a walk around and you had to be back at a certain time. Then we flew and were delayed by 40 minutes. But then we flew and arrived in Malta, then we got picked up by the host family and went to their house, then we went to a trampoline park and then we went out for dinner.

Day 2:

We had to get up very early because we were picked up very early by the school van. We had to drive half an hour and arrived at that school. It was very large and there were 2 football fields, where you could play football or you could go to the canteen and sit there. Or we would play football some distance away from the school. When school started, all the children went to their classrooms, but we went to the school’s vegetable garden. To pick lemons to make lemonade later in the week. Then we went to a town to do a photo sprint. Only we couldn’t do it because it was way too hot, so we went for lunch and had a sandwich and then we went to the host family’s house and chilled out. And then dinner and calling our parents for the first time and then sleeping.

Day 3:

We went to Comino and Gozo. We first went for a long ride by bus. And we arrived at a restaurant and were allowed to buy an ice cream or walk around on the beach.  Then a Maltese boy was buried in the sand and then we went to Comino by speedboat. We docked there to go to a church that is used once a week. Then we went to a hospital that was previously used for the plague, which was special to see. Then we met up with the only person who lives there, the name is Salvo, and then we were allowed to ask Salvo questions. And then we took the speedboat to Gozo to moor there and had a look at the beach. And then we had lunch in a restaurant and then we were allowed to swim. And we went back to Malta to school and had to wait for the host family and then we went home and we were allowed to call our parent and went to sleep.

Day 4:

We had to get up very early again and took the van to that school… when we got there we played football and afterwards we had workshops on our phone. We were going to paint a Maltese boat and then we took a lesson with it.  We went to have a hot dog lunch and then we went to wash the lemons and we were now going to make lemonade and the blender broke down. so I couldn’t make lemonade, we then went home in the van and chilled and had dinner and called our parents and then we went to sleep.

Day 5:

We had to get up very early. And we were picked up again by the van. We had to wait a long time to go back to school, but we went to play football… and play games on our phone. We went to Gozo with a few students from the school, we all went to visit nice things such as a mill and a beautiful beach. We also went for a nice lunch. And we went to a kind of castle, where we walked around. Doing photo bingo but it was a bit too hot and we had left our stuff on the bus. So that wasn’t useful. Then we went to a restaurant. And there we had lunch, then we went back to the ferry by bus.  And we went back to Malta by bus to school. And we were picked up by the host parents. And we went to sleep and chill for a while and then we called with our parent and that was the day.

Day 6:

The last day at school we had to get up very early again. And we were picked up again by the van and went to that school. And we had to start the day at school again. We started by going to the office of the lady who does the traveling in Malta. Then we went to take a lesson. After the lesson we went to the water factory. And we went there to play games about the climate. And then we went to the host family’s house. With the van. We rested for a while and then we went to the diploma ceremony and then we went for an ice cream and then it was best to sleep early.

Day 7:

We had to get up very early because we were going to the airport. When we got there we said goodbye to the host family, which was sad. But we were happy to go back to our parents. We went to put our suitcases on the belt.  And then we went to customs. You were not allowed to bring drinks with you. And that was also checked, but we all got through it. We had agreed on a place and we had to be back at that time. We were allowed to walk around for a while and we were allowed to buy things, then we went to the plane and back to the Netherlands, our parents were waiting for us on the plane and you could finally see them again, then we went home, that was the trip.
